Schlappen Bundles:  Long web fibers for Steelhead and Atlantic salmon patterns also great for wooly buggers any pattern requiring long webby hackle. These are currently not available from Whiting farms till later in 2012.

  There has been an unprecedented increased demand for long saddle hackle feathers in the fashion hair industry for hair extension's made from the great fly tying feathers.  Due to this unanticipated demand Whiting farms and all fly shop businesses were not prepared for this outside demand for fly tying feathers. They are trying to increase production; however, it takes awhile for the egg to hatch and the bird grow and then be harvested and dyed in various colors.  Who knew fly tying materials are also a fashion product.    Anyway, Whiting Farms and our business is trying to handle the demand.  One way of handling demand is prices are increasing.  This is bad for fly tiers.  So my recommendation is head down to the local beauty shop and start pulling feathers out of the beauty conscious  women as they go out the door.   The good thing is it is the fashion industry so what is popular today will be next years Kmart special :-)
